Reverend James Smith
Reverend James Wendell Smith is an
Associate Minister at MGBC. A native of Jonesville, South Carolina,
he is a graduate of Jonesville High School, and has attended Rutledge
Junior College, Spartanburg Technical College, Blanton Junior College,
and Fox Valley Technical College. He also attended American Baptist
College in Nashville, Tennessee, where he earned his certificate of
Christian Training and diploma in Theology in 2001. He was called
to preach the word of God in 1993, and has been a member of MGBC since
2004. At MGBC, he is involved in several ministries, including The
Messenger and the Brotherhood.
Before he breaks the
bread of life to God’s people, Reverend Smith has a special
prayer he likes to pray. He asks God to hide him behind yonder cross,
that less of him be seen and more of the Lord. His favorite scripture
is Psalm 27. Reverend Smith is married to his wife, Thelma, and has
a stepdaughter, Tonya.
