Women Of Faith Ministry
First Lady Durham Speaks
to Monks Grove
On Sunday, November 14,
the Women of Faith at MGBC took over the morning worship service.
First Lady, Donna Durham presented a powerful word that not only addressed
the wome of our church, but the church as a whole. Taking her text
from Rom. 16:1-2, sister Durham introduced us to the climate of the
church in that day, and how women were seen in the church. Back then,
Rabbi's didn't have much use for women. If men were seen speaking
to women in public, it could have been percieved as adultery. But
Jesus has always had a use for women; Mary, his mother, Elizabeth,
and the woman at the well, just to mention a few. Jesus lifted women
up!
Sister Durham charged
us to imagine a church without women. It goes without saying that
the church wouldn't be what it is without the influence of women.
The Bible doesn;t tell us much about Phoebe specifically. Some would
say she was a deacon. We definitely know she was a Christian. Paul
called her "our sister" in the Lord. Sister Durham also
made mention to the church to be careful about who we call our "sisters".
Phoebe was travelling to Rome, and Paul wanted to make sure she was
treated well by the church upon her arrival.
In closing her message,
she incorporated the mission of the Women of Faith with the rest of
the congregation. Jesus is our employer and Pastor Durham is our manager.
We should always pray and
kep
our pastor lifted up. We are also responsible for defending him when
others attack his character. We should also inspire other members
that lag behind to get behind the pastor and his vision. Don't just
pray for God to stop by the hospital; take the initiative and visit
the sick ourselves. the deaconess should be co-laborers with their
husbands.
Finally she reminded
us to serve with faith in love. our main mission is to stop the devil.
Satan is after us! He wants to kill us! We need more authentic Christians
to be warriors for Christ. Worldy people mock Christians. They are
waiting for our downfall. We must unite and LOVE RIGHT! And when it
is all over , like the song says, "He'll understand and say well
done!"
